Anderson .Paak & Cordae "Heavy Is The Crown" (2026)

Heavy Is The Crown but can this duo lift it? Kicking off on a premise of interpolating iconic verses, this pleasant pairing of softer rap voices exchange slick rhymes. Set over mediocre beats, it makes for a fresh slice of goodness that probably wont stick in the mind for long. Underwhelming production aside, their chemistry is the main attraction, a healthy exchange of life's tales spiced up with timely touches of humor. Sadly, that nostalgic fun wares off swiftly as this premise doesn't extend further than the fifth, A Good Day, a warm reimagining Bill Withers' timeless feel good classic. Its an intriguing concept I'd be keen to hear play out across a full album.

The record hints at goat status and game peak on occasion but mostly airs out life's latest for these two skilled artists who compliment each other in their strengths, yet struggle to crown the record with a solid hook or ear worm in the creative process. Thus these songs swing on by, competent and entertaining. Pleasant vocal lines and sturdy verses yet lacking that secret sauce in the beats to nail some memorability to its eleven tracks. All in all a good listen that could have been so much more.
